The problems of access from the village onto the A420 have been a problem for years with the right turn towards Faringdon being the biggest one. Currently this is via the Bampton Road / A420 junction but this gets very congested due to all the new housing in Bampton, schools traffic etc. The result is that people wishing to head eastwards towards Oxford avoid the queues by running through the village.
A roundabout would be too costly and the possible alternative of traffic lights has always been rejected by the authorities on the grounds that it would mean interrupting the flow of traffic along the A420 which is regarded as an important ‘strategic’ route.
Now the announcement that there will be traffic lights at the Gt. Coxwell / A420 junction west of Faringdon clearly puts an end to that excuse so there would seem to be no reason why there could not be traffic lights at the Bampton Road / A 420 junction.
It seems to me that we need to consider whether this is a desirable development. Clearly it will lead to a slowing of traffic along the A420 but against that traffic from the village and Bampton would be able to turn right far more easily.
So do people think this is an idea worth pursuing?
Built environment is one of the most important challenges facing Buckland. With traffic lights having been agreed at the Carswell turning, why oh why have they not given them to us at the Buckland Road turning(s)??? Everyone who lives here knows they take their lives in their hands going out on the Bampton Road to the A420. Does anyone agree?
I definitely think this is an idea worth pursuing. Perhaps we could organise a traffic count, the amount of traffic both ways to be counted over the course of a working day, and over the course of a weekend. Plus add where the traffic is going to or coming from. This would add weight to the request
