We have lived in Buckland for over 6 years and feel very proud to be part of such a wonderful village and community! We are parents of two children (9,7 yrs old) and have seen a large increase in young families moving into the village which has added to the community.
There are obviously lots of good ideas, but we’re drawn to ones that have facility for all sections and ages of the community. This leads us to the idea of a MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area).
Why?
- Would be a brilliant place for sports which benefit the whole community! Tennis, Pickleball, Football, Basketball, Netball, Circuits etc.
- Wouldn’t it be great to see a community pickleball tournament, U10's football, an over 50’s tennis match, walking football or a youth Netball practise!
- The village has previously had leisure facilities (Cricket club & Swimming Pool)
- The obvious benefits of physical activity/exercise on physical and mental health
- The existing swimming pool site seems an obvious place for this to be
- Nowadays there are very aesthetically sympathetic MUGA designs (not all are bright colours) and can be bespoke perhaps adding benches or a kids play wall.
There would obviously be a lot of details to iron out and listening to do, but we would put our weight behind this initiative (including being hands on to drive it).
Best regards,
Steven & Hannah Houston
I think this is a great idea, particularly as I am a pickleball player! There are a number of people thinking along these lines; if we put our heads together I think we could come up with a good proposal. We should meet together soon to discuss it further. If you would like to come along add a message to this thread.
